Some Pizza Trivia

The first true pizzeria opened in Naples and was called Antica Pizzeria Port’Alba, and it is still there today. A lot of the Italian pizza vendors believe that marinara and margherita are the only true kind of pizzas and they are the only ones they serve. They don’t include all the extravagant toppings that we have today like pineapple. When pizza made its way to America, many pizzerias in Chicago, San Francisco, and New York claim to be the first, but most believe the first pizzeria in America to be started by Gennaro Lombardi in Little Italy, Manhattan. It was originally a grocery store but they started making pizzas to sell and eventually transformed into a full-out pizzeria.

The largest pizza ever made was 37.4 meters in diameter made at a market in Johannesburg, South Africa. It was made in 1990 with 500 kg of flour, 800 kg of cheese and 900 kg of tomato.

The record for most deliveries on any one night was the night OJ Simpson made his famous run from the cops.
